Thoughts

David's cheerful demeaner and story-telling skills kept up morale for me, his cousin Richard and friends on a cold, rainy, windy day while canoeing for two weeks in the Canadian wilderness region of Temagami. On our visit to Wales, David took us to some of the many stunningly beautiful sites in his neck of the woods, enthusiascly explaining the fascinating history. What a delightful person --a joy to spend time with.

Dave introduced us to kayaking about 8 years ago when he started the group laid back launchers. He immediately encouraged and supported us to enjoy paddling as he did. His smiling face greeted us each week and as our confidence grew he shared our enjoyment. He provided the equipment and nothing was to much effort. Later we brought our own kayaks and the group became a close band of friends. We were all so sorry to see Dave contract such a devastating illness. We felt for Dave and Pat as the illness took its toll. We were pleased they could join us on Fridays although Dave was not strong enough to kayak. We were so sorry to hear of his death and to us he will always be our leader. We send Pat, Catie, Bryony and families our heartfelt condolences and say a fond farewell to a wonderful special friend. Love Julia and Trevor xx

I should allow a lot of thanks to Dave for the time he spent with me on the river to get up to scratch with my canoeing. My canoeing has taken me around the world but I wouldn’t of got off if we didn’t get out. And his kindness when I broke the thwart. To Dave he was just happy the boat was being used. My favourite memory would be from us rescuing a sheep on the river Wye and him hauling it up the bank.
